Samsung Announces Galaxy Tab S2 9.7 In India For $595

Samsung has unveiled quite a few devices this year, as it’s the case every year. The company’s latest offerings are the high-end phablets, the Galaxy Note 5 and Galaxy S6 Edge Plus. These two devices were announced last month, and are already available for purchase in certain parts of the world. We’re not here to talk about Samsung’s phones or phablets, but their tablet offerings. This Korea-based tech giant has released their second-gen Galaxy S tablets back in July. The Galaxy Tab S2 arrived in 8 and 9.7-inch variants. Well, the bigger model actually launched in India now as well, read on.

The Galaxy Tab S2 9.7 features a 9.7-inch QXGA (2048 x 1536) Super AMOLED display, 3GB of DDR3 RAM and 32GB of internal storage (expandable up to 128GB). This tablet is powered by the Exynos 5433 octa-core SoC along with a Mali T760 MP6 GPU for graphics. The 8-megapixel camera is available on the back of the Galaxy Tab S2, and an 2.1-megapixel shooter can be found up front. This tablet sports a 5,870mAh battery on the inside, and the physical home button below the display actually doubles as a fingerprint scanner. Speaking of the home button, you’ll notice there are two capacitive buttons located next to it (overview and back), as it’s the case on every Samsung Galaxy device lately. The Galaxy Tab S2 9.7 offers 4G LTE connectivity, and ships with Android 5.0 Lollipop pre-installed. The device measures 169 x 237.3 x 5.6mm, while it weighs 392 grams.

That being said, Galaxy Tab S2 9.7 is Samsung’s premium tablet offering, and considering that, it’s not exactly cheap. The tablet is priced at Rs. 39,400 ($595) in India, and it’s available in Black, White and Gold color options. Interesting enough, this tablet comes pre-loaded with Galaxy Gifts which are worth around Rs. 31,000. News, Productivity and Entertainment apps are covered here. Samsung has also mentioned the Galaxy Tab S2 8.0 during the S2 9.7 announcement, the company has basically said that they don’t plan to bring the smaller Galaxy Tab S2 to India, at least not anytime soon. So, basically, if you live in India and want to get the Galaxy Tab S2, this 9.7-inch variant will be your only option, at least for a while.
