Samsung is one of the biggest tech companies in the world, this company dabbles in pretty much everything, and also manufactures most of the components for their smartphones. Samsung has released a number of interesting smartphone designs in the last year or so, the Galaxy Note Edge, Galaxy S6 Edge and Galaxy S6 Edge Plus are good examples of that. That being said, the company is rumored to be working on a foldable smartphone, and we’ve seen a number of leaked patents thus far, which suggested that the rumors were true. Samsung is reportedly calling this whole operation ‘Project Valley‘, and new info surfaced recently, read on.
SamMobile has shared yet another listing on PatentlyMobile which allegedly explains how will this smartphone function. The whole mechanism will be based on the ‘hinge system’, as pictured in the image above this article. It seems like this smartphone will sport only 1 display which will be foldable, instead of two separate units as some of the earlier reports suggested. This device is reportedly going to launch in January, and is currently being tested by Samsung. The phone will allegedly be powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 820 SoC, and it will also sport 3GB of RAM, and it will offer a microSD expansion.
I don’t know if you recall, but this is not the only Project Valley-related foldable smartphone patent Samsung has applied for this month, we’ve already talked about one patent listing about a week ago. Now, as it usually goes, we cannot confirm that Samsung is working on such a smartphone, nor that it will launch in January, but considering how many foldable smartphone patents this Korean tech giant has applied for, it sure seems like they’ll release the device soon. Samsung likes to be the first to come up with new tech, and this would certainly belong in that category. We’ll let you know if any additional information surfaces, and if the company truly intends to launch this thing in the next couple of months. new leaks / rumors are bound to pop up soon, so stay tuned for that.
