Microsoft has its hands in quite a bit lately, having launched a number of its software as apps available on Android instead of just its own Windows platform, promoting cross-platform compatibility. The latest app to hit the Play Store for Android users is an app called Send, which is a project that had been worked on by Microsoft Garage and finally launched as a full-on working service by Microsoft after having been exclusive to the iOS platform since earlier in the Summer. The app is an email client, but it works quite differently than traditional email as it’s been designed and made to feel like a more natural conversation. Essentially it’s going to feel like texting or instant messaging but it will “work like email” according to the team at Microsoft.
Once a user is logged in, (which has to be done with the same account you would use to login to Office 365) they can begin sending messages/emails from Send and get the conversations flowing. The app works such that any messages sent out from it show up in your email inbox allowing you to carry on the conversation from either the app or you computer or tablet from the actual email, which adds a level of control for the user as well as convenience. Since this is basically email, you can also use Send to message any of your email contacts whether they have Send installed or not. If they don’t, it goes to their email account. If they do, they’ll get the message in Send.
This is tied to your email, so you’ll end up getting emails to that account inside of Send too, right? No. Send is all about quick, natural conversations and a means of communication between email contacts with a more fluid feel, without the extra emails weighing you down. Only messages started in Send will show up in Send, so users can be assured that the app won’t be bogged down by a bunch of other junk or emails they want kept in email.
