Sony Puts The Xperia Z5 Camera Through The Paces

Sony is easily one of the most well-known when it comes to smartphone makers for putting in some really great cameras capable of taking photos that are often unparalleled by some other smartphone cameras. Sony has always been one to focus on and highlight the strengths of their smartphone cameras and they usually do this in most of the marketing they come up with, and the same can be said for the Xperia Z5 which is Sony’s latest flagship smartphone that was just announced back at the beginning of September during the IFA conference in Berlin. To showcase some of the phone’s camera capabilities, Sony put out a promotional video they shot to point out what the camera is capable of while also putting the camera to the test to see if it could really stand up to some of photography’s toughest situations, like movement, far away subjects, and low light shots.

One of the first benefits that’s highlighted is the speed and quality of the auto-focus, which the video’s presenter Maddie Moate touches base on as one of the reasons she was able to get some amazing clear shots during the bumpy ride in a Traby car, which are apparently notoriously known for being anything but a smooth ride. Also highlighted is the Xperia Z5’s touch capture functionality, which allows users to simply touch a point on the screen to focus in on that segment and snap the picture. Sony’s “steady shot” feature is also mentioned which helps to keep pictures stable and in focus instead of blurry.

The video also shows the 5x zoom and the panoramic mode being tested to see how clear photos look while zooming in all the way from a hot air balloon. Normally when you zoom in the max amount, the pictures can end up looking a bit distorted, but the clarity actually isn’t compromised too much at all. You get a brief look at the time shift burst and the Xperia Z5’s fireworks setting to get the most out of photos during a a fireworks display. This can be a particularly difficult situation for photos as it’s rather dark outside, but with these two modes the colors of the fireworks at just the right moment are picked up quite amazingly. If you’ve been wondering what the sample shots of the Xperia Z5 might look like prior to considering picking one up, have a watch of the video below and see for yourself.
