The highly anticipated Huawei Watch, which Huawei announced initially back near the beginning of the year has officially gone on sale in the U.S. and Canada today, available starting at $349 for the base model. While this is one of the newest additions to the Android Wear lineup for smartwatches running the platform, it won’t be the only watch to launch before the year is out. Huawei’s offering and first Android Wear smartwatch brings with it an elegant and luxurious looking design that makes it stand out from other offerings, and this includes the coveted round watch face which at one point could only be found with Motorola’s original Moto 360 that launched last year.
While generally everything has been known about the Huawei Watch for some time, a recent teardown of the device reveals some interesting details about the watch that no one likely expected to discover. It would appear that the Huawei Watch harbors a speaker on the inside, although it was never explicitly stated as having one when the device was announced. It would also appear as though there is no function for the speaker just yet meaning even though it may be there, users aren’t exactly capable of using it at this point in time, so essentially the speaker doesn’t do anything. That it doesn’t mean users won’t be able to utilize it sometime in the future.
If the Huawei Watch does in fact hold a speaker inside then there’s no telling why Huawei wouldn’t have it enabled it from the start, but there’s always the possibility that it could have something to do with the current version of Android Wear. It would also make the Huawei Watch the only Android Wear device to support outgoing audio as every other device requires connection to a Bluetooth device (like headphones) to utilize the playing of music or other things like videos. For now, users are stuck with connecting their Huawei Watches to a pair of Bluetooth headphones if they’re looking to use audio for anything, but that could end up changing sometime in the future through a software update. At this point, it’s unclear but certainly interesting.
