Star Wars has been a prominent part of pop-culture ever since its introduction as a major motion picture in the 1970’s. Ever since then this empire of science fiction has grown from a large cult following to filling the coffers of the Disney vault, laying out new movies, video games and every product that can possibly fit the Star Wars universe on its box art. While we’ve certainly seen the gamut of toys and other related merchandise from the Star Wars universe hit the shelves, we don’t always see something that pushes technology to new limits from the universe. This latest toy definitely does something unique and pretty awesome that’s not commonly seen in toys and is likely to replace quite a few RC cars out there in toyland.
At IFA 2015 in Berlin a few representatives from Sphero, the company and brains behind the design of this awesome little toy, and they showcased just how well this little machine moves across real-world surfaces. If the BB-8 looks a little familiar to you that might be because you’ve already seen it for a brief moment in the trailers for the upcoming Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens. This little robot features a mostly stationary head that hovers above a sphere-shaped body, all of which is controlled via an app on your smartphone or tablet. Check out the video below to see the BB-8 in action and grab your own from Amazon when it finally gets back in stock!
