IFA 2015 might be over, but last week bought us more than just fresh launches from the big names in tech. Not only did we see a number of new Android Wear watches launch, but we also heard more about the upcoming Nexus devices from both LG and Huawei. Nokia also made the headlines last week as a new, Android-powered, smartphone hit the internet in the form of prototype renders. Now, it appears as though the device has been spotted in the flesh, or at least that’s what a couple of posts on China’s Weibo network would lead us to believe.
The photos in question do look similar to the renders that surfaced last week, but there’s not much of a design to go on in the first place. Much like the Nokia N1 tablet, it appears as though any device that Nokia creates these days, it appears as though they’re looking to create a minimal, and simplistic device with an appealing look and feel. In these new shots, we see what appears to be a slight custom UI running on top of Lollipop, or possibly even Android 6.0 Marshmallow that will be launching with a dark theme for the first time since KitKat.
According to the rumors, the Nokia C1 is to be a metal unibody design, much like the Nokia N1 that’s been on sale in China for quite some time now. The fallout of the Nokia, Microsoft deal has almost settled and Nokia will soon be able to produce and sell smartphones once again. This new approach from Nokia, adopting Android as their operating system will remind fans of the move they wanted the company to take before they sided with Microsoft and Windows Phone. Over time, we should probably see more leaks like these, but there’s little to suggest that these are the actual device in the flesh and these could be falsified. Either way, it looks like Nokia is very much committed to producing smartphones once again, running the Android operating system.
