Xiaomi is not only manufacturing smartphones, but tablets, smart TVs, fitness trackers and all sorts of other smart gadgets as well. The company has unveiled only one tablet thus far, the Xiaomi Mi Pad which launched back in March 2014. We’ve been hearing some news when it comes to its successor for a while now, and the device has even leaked at the end of last month (image above the article), but we didn’t have any actual proof that it exists. Well, this tablet has recently surfaced on China’s 3C Quality Certification Center, and gave us the strongest hint it exists thus far.
The tablet carries the 2015716 model number, and is classified under the Tablet PC category. We still don’t know what will this device’s specs look like considering this certification didn’t’ list any of them, but it’s at least some sort of a confirmation that Xiaomi is planning to launch this thing soon, and surely before the end of this year. A number of rumors lately said that the Mi Pad 2 will come in two variants, sporting both Windows and Android operating systems. Chinese analyst, Pan Jiutang, has confirmed that the Windows 10 variant is on its way recently, and Android-powered Mi Pad is a given considering that most of the company’s products are based on Android, and that the first Mi Pad was powered by Google’s operating system.
Now, the question remains, when will Xiaomi launch this tablet? Well, the company is holding an event on September 22nd, so it’s possible that they intend to launch it there, but that’s not as likely. Xiaomi will almost certainly announce the Mi 4C smartphone at said event, and we still haven’t seen any official Mi Pad 2 teasers thus far, so we’re guessing this thing won’t launch this month. As far as its specs go, the rumors said that its display will be somewhat bigger this time around (the original Mi Pad sported a 9.7-inch panel), and you can also expect it to ship with 3 or 4GB of RAM. The Android variant of the tablet will ship with Android Lollipop, and the company’s MIUI OS will be available on top of Google’s operating system, as usual.
