YU is an India-based smartphone manufacturer which is owned by Micromax. This company has produced two smartphones thus far, the YU Yureka and Yuphoria. Both of these smartphones are fueled by Cyanogen OS, are available in India only, and are very affordable, especially considering their build quality and specs. Well, YU has been teasing the launch of yet another handset for quite some time now. This smartphone is supposed to launch later today, and the listing already appeared on Snapdeal, India-based retailer. Either way, let’s see what this handset has to offer, shall we.
This listing is rather reliable considering this is Snapdeal we’re talking about, so chances are this very same handset will get announced by YU later today. The phone is called YU Yunique, and it’s an extremely affordable entry-level handset. The phone sports a 4.7-inch 720p (1280 x 720) IPS Fully Laminted display with Corning’s Gorilla Glass 3 on top of it. Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 410 64-bit quad-core SoC is fueling the phone, and an Adreno 306 GPU is here for graphics processing. The 8-megapixel camera (+LED flash, f/2.0 aperture) is available on the back of the YU Yunique, and a 2-megapixel snapper (83-degree wide-angle lens, f/2.4 aperture) can be found up front. The 2,000mAh battery is also a part of this package, and the device will offer 4G LTE connectivity. This is a dual-SIM handset, and Cyanogen OS 12.1 comes pre-installed here on top of Android 5.1.1 Lollipop.
So, this will basically be a rather nice looking, and well-specced entry-level smartphone by YU. You can check out the provided image above if you’d like to know what will it look like. Its bottom and side bezels are really thin, and the upper bezel isn’t thick at all either. This suggests this device will be extremely compact, not only will it sport a 4.7-inch display, but thin bezels as well. The YU Yunique comes in Black color option only, at least judging by Snapdeal’s listing, and is priced at Rs. 4,999 ($75). The listing says that the phone will be available for purchase on September 15th via a flash sale in India, and we’re waiting for the official announcement. Another thing worth mentioning is the fact that the rumored YU5050 high-end handset probably won’t launch today, you can expect this entry-level handset to be showcased, and that’s it. This is not confirmed at this point, but it sure seems like it.
