ALCATEL ONETOUCH has just announced a new entry-level device bound for the nation’s third-largest wireless carrier, known as the Fierce XL. The new smartphone will come in at a low-end price tag of just $139.00 but offer up some decent hardware for the cost, boasting specs like a large 5.5-inch HD IPS display for consumers. The phone is first set to hit “select” Metro PCS Stores and the Metro PCS online website (a smaller regional carrier now owned by T-Mobile) on November 2nd, making it available next week, although “select” stores means it won’t be available at very location. As for T-mobile subscribers, they’ll be able to grab the new phone at some point later on this winter, however, a specific date was not mentioned for the release.
Aside from the 5.5-inch HD IPS display, the Fierce XL also sports a quad-core processor, specifically a Qualcomm Snapdragon 210 CPU. The device will also support 4G LTE Cat 4 and come running Android 5.1.1 Lollipop out of the box. Although there is no word on a possible update to Marshmallow, consumers can probably expect the phone to stay on Lollipop for the duration of its shelf life, but that could certainly change. The Fierce XL offers up an 8MP rear-facing camera with auto-focus capabilities and LED flash, and over on the front users will find a 2MP camera for selfies and video chat.
When it comes to storage and memory, ALCATEL has fitted the device with 16GB of internal storage space but it can be expanded upon with the use of a microSD card up to 32GB, and 2GB of RAM can be found inside to handle the phone’s tasks and functions. The battery weighs in at 2500mAh which isn’t necessarily the most from a device these days, but it should be plenty for an entry level phone that has a 720p resolution even if it is 5.5-inches in size. The Fierce XL will also support WiFi calling, HD Voice, and VoLTE, so calls should be crystal clear. In addition to the above-listed hardware specifications, the Fierce XL has some unique features up its sleeves for users, like the Polaroid photo mode which opens up the capability to apply filters and borders to images instantly from the native camera app.
