Of all the streaming music applications available to Android users, one that likely gets less attention is Amazon Music. That isn’t to say that it isn’t a popular app, just that it isn’t on the same level of popularity as options like Spotify, Play Music Unlimited, Slacker Radio, and Pandora. For those who are heavily invested in the Amazon ecosystem though through a Prime Membership, Amazon Music can be a great streaming music app. That’s even more true now then just a few weeks ago as Amazon has just begun to send out an update that brings in some new features which might entice more users to give the app a try if they haven’t already.
Front and center for some is sure to be the newly added support for Android Wear. Now consumers with an Android Wear-powered smartwatch can manage music right from their wrists, including controlling the playback of the songs they may already be listening to. The support also extends to browsing the app for songs to play just in case there isn’t something already streaming. In addition to this particular feature, the app also now lists off new songs, artists, and albums that have recently been added to it so users can easily find new music to listen to that the service offers. Another new tab that was added in this latest update is called “popular music” which as the tab’s name suggests, is for helping users find music that’s popular from various categories.
Now, if users find an artist they like, the new artist detail pages will allow them to see everything they want about them including some of the artist’s other top songs and albums. This makes discovering new music to listen to that much easier. UK users also now get the lyric support, and last but not least, Amazon Music now lets users download music to an external SD card. While offline playback was already capable if users wanted to store music to their internal storage space on the device, the capability to download to a microSD card allows not only for users to keep their internal storage free, but transfer those songs to other devices they may be using. The app update should be rolling out to everyone today.
