MediaTek was once manufacturing low-end processors and very few people have heard of them. Well, this Taiwan-based processor manufacturer has managed to rise to the occasion and is now manufacturing more than respectful chips. MediaTek’s SoC are used heavily by Chinese OEMs, and they’re actually quite capable. Their MT6735 and MT6753 64-bit chips have been used quite frequently this year, and same can be said for their flagship Helio X10 (MT6795) offering. Speaking of flagship SoC, MediaTek is expected to release their Helio X10 (MT6797) 64-bit deca-core processor before the end of this year.
We’ve been waiting for the company to do this for quite some time now. The Helio X10 will be the first deca-core mobile processor available in the market, and you can expect to see quite a few flagships to sport this chip in the coming months and throughout 2016. That being said, we’ve spotted the first Helio X30 piece of info already. According to Pan Jiutang, a China-based analyst, MediaTek might release this SoC in less than a year, but not before the second half of 2016. The analyst has also added that the Helio X20 won’t be a match for the Snapdragon 820 in terms of sheer power, but that the Helio X30 might be. He seems to expect big things from the Helio X30, and has also revealed some spec info as well.
According to the analyst, the Helio X30 will be manufactured on a 16nm FinFET technology, and will use the four cluster X20 processor design, but a more advanced one. This will still be a deca-core processor, and as far as its cores are concerned, well, read on. The Helio X30 is said to sport 4 x Cortex A72 cores running at 2.5GHz, 2 x Cortex A72 cores clocked at 2GHz, 2 x Cortex A53 cores at 1.5GHz and 2 x Cortex A53 cores running at 1.0GHz. The chip will also support dual-channel LPDDR4 RAM (1,600MHz) and eMMC 5.1. OEMs will be able to include cameras up to 40-megapixels, and the Mali-T880 MP4 GPU will be a part of this package as well it seems. That’s pretty much it, we’ll let you know if any additional info pops up.
