After many leaks and rumors, BlackBerry finally released their first phone running Android. It’s called BlackBerry PRIV and it is targeted towards those who look for productivity in their mobile devices while offering a secure platform and lots of apps. The phone was built with almost no compromise, as it features a sliding physical QWERTY keyboard and a premium design that includes a large curved screen with a high pixel density. The internal specs of the BlackBerry PRIV are also very powerful as a Snapdragon 808 processor and 3 GB of RAM are powering up the phone. The main 18-megapixel camera features Schneider-Kreuznach optics and OIS, plus it’s capable of 4K video recording, and its 3,410 mAh battery offers around 22 hours of mixed use.
BlackBerry created a video highlighting some of the most innovative features of the phone like the touch-enabled keyboard or the new pop-up widgets that let you see some information of the apps without actually opening them. If you were curious about the contents of the box of this phone, the UK retailer Carphone Warehouse has released a video unboxing the device while giving us a look of some of the software enhancements done by the company and reviewing its specifications.
The video starts by showing us the box of the device, which is black and simplistic, but it has got the name logo on the front and the two words that helped to create such name, a little below it reminds its users that the device is powered by Android. Opening the box, there’s the phone up front with some documentation to let you get going with the device. Removing a piece of cardboard, there’s the SIM tool with some extra manuals and safety information. At the bottom of the box, there are the headphones, wall adapter and the USB cable. Then, the device gets powered up and we get to see the BlackBerry Hub and the Universal Search triggered from the Home button just like Google Now, although these apps would be on the right and left, respectively. The virtual keyboard gets demoed as well as the physical one with its trackpad functionality. There are some shortcuts when swiping from the right side of the curved display and finally the DTEK app, which provides more security and control over apps is mentioned.
