Google has just updated their Play Movies & TV app to version 3.9, which brings in a few new features to the app. While we still don’t have that all access feature that’s been rumored for months, if not years, we did get some interesting features. One of those being binge watching for TV Shows. You ever find a new TV show and you watch one episode, then you watch another and another and another and before you know it, you’ve watched the entire season in one day? Well Google has added a feature for that. Basically, what it does is when the current episode is nearing the end, a thumbnail for the next episode will appear, where you can start watching it. Similar to Netflix’s Post-Play feature that was introduced a while ago.
The update also brings an easier setup for Roku devices. Google Play Movies & TV has been available on Roku devices for quite some time, and now it looks like Google is making the setup a bit easier. In the past, it has been a bit of a pain to set up. Other than that we also have Marshmallow support in this update, which is great to see as Marshmallow is slated to begin rolling out this week. We also have the usual “bug fixes and stability improvements” which Google didn’t go into detail about, as they usually don’t. But expect some bugs to be fixed and the stability to be improved with version 3.9 of the Play Movies & TV app.
Google Play Movies & TV is part of Google’s Play suite of apps and services. You can find all kinds of movies and TV shows, that are available for purchase. Unfortunately, they don’t have a subscription model for this just yet, although it has been heavily rumored and leaked over the past year or so. Hopefully we see something about it soon. The APK is also available for the Google Play Movies & TV v3.9, so you are able to sideload it onto your smartphone or tablet right now, instead of waiting for Google’s slow rollout of the update. Which no one wants to wait for.
