Earlier today, Motorola officially announced their latest pair of Droid smartphones, the Droid Turbo 2 and the Droid MAXX 2. Both of which feel more like Motorola devices than they ever have done. The Droid Turbo 2 is quite obviously the flagship device for Verizon, and a first for Motorola with ShatterShield technology, but the Droid MAXX 2 is still a worthy device to consider. Designed to be less expensive than the Turbo 2, this Droid is a 5.5-inch 1080p affair with a massive 3,630 mAh battery alongside other specs.
Unlike the Droid Turbo 2 however, there’s no access to Moto Maker, no ShatterShield display and no 4K video recording. All of that however, means that this 5.5-inch device is a little cheaper, and it should last a little longer on battery life as a result of a large battery and a less hungry processor. If the Droid Maxx 2 looks a little familiar, that’s because it appears to be a rebranded version of the Moto X Play that Motorola have been selling over in Europe over the Summer. To us, it looks and feels very similar, but we can understand why Motorola and Verizon have reused a fairly successful package here, it’s just a shame that there’s no Moto Maker access here.
Some might look upon the Droid MAXX 2 as the lesser Droid, but there are different devices out there for all sorts of people, and the Droid MAXX 2 has its place in the market. How well it succeeds in the shadow of the Droid Turbo 2 however, remains to be seen.
