Last night, LG officially announced the LG V10, with it being shown off at their press event today in New York City. The big feature of this new smartphone is the second display that is up above the main 5.7-inch QHD IPS display. LG says that this second display can be set up as an “always on” display. This is to enhance the productivity of the V10, without impacting the battery life. As the resolution of that display is 160×1040, making for 513PPI.
Using the second screen, you can have the weather, time, date and battery icon on the main display turned off and appear on the secondary display. Additionally, with the main display on, the second display can be used for shortcuts. So you can launch into some of your favorite apps without having to go home first. With the second screen, you can also choose to have notifications come in there, instead of dropping down and blocking the view of the video you may be watching. Which is a major pain on other devices. This also means you can easily ignore the notification without any issues.
The LG V10 also features a 5.7-inch QHD IPS Quantum view display. Powered by Qualcomm’s Hexa-core Snapdragon 808 CPU along with 4GB of RAM and 64GB of internal storage. There is also a microSD card slot inside, along with a removable 3,000mAh battery. It also runs Android 5.1.1 Lollipop and is available in Space Black, Luxe White, Modern Beige, Ocean Blue and Opal Blue. LG will be releasing the V10 in Korea in October, with the US and China coming soon. Other countries in Asia, Latin America and the Middle East will also follow in the coming weeks. For the US, it’ll be available at AT&T, T-Mobile and Verizon. Currently, no pricing has been announced, but it will likely be the same price as the LG G4 was when it was first available. So expect around a $500 price tag, off contract or unlocked, on the LG V10. If you’re looking to finance through your carrier, it’ll likely be around $0 down with monthly payments around $20.
