HTC has announced a new smartphone two days ago, the One A9. This handset has been leaking for a long, long time, and the Taiwan-based company has finally decided to unveil it. The One A9 isn’t exactly the highest-end device you’ll see around, it’s more of a mid-ranger, but a rather well-specced mid-ranger. Interesting enough, HTC has promised that the phone will be updated to new version of Google’s OS within 15 days after Google releases it on Nexus devices, which is quite an interesting promise by HTC, and it will be interesting to see if they can stick to it. HTC One A9 runs Android 6.0 Marshmallow out of the box with HTC’s Sense UI on top of it.
That being said, a new report popped up claiming that One A9’s design language will actually transfer to the company’s ‘M’ and ‘Desire’ lineups of devices. HTC One M7, M8 and M9 (flagship devices) were quite similar in terms of the design, same can be said about the company’s Desire devices. Well, it seems like HTC is looking for a new formula, and sees One A9 as an example, according to the president of HTC north Asia, Jack Tong. According to Tong, HTC actually considers One A9 a ‘milestone’ device.
The One A9 is made out of aluminum, and it looks rather… well, unusual. You’ll either love or hate One A9’s design to be quite honest. You do get a fingerprint scanner below the display which doubles as a capacitive home button, but there are also screen-on buttons available here, so you essentially have two home screen buttons available. The rear-facing camera is located in the upper middle portion of the device, and it also protrudes every so slightly. The One A9 features a 5-inch 1080p (1920 x 1080) AMOLED display along with 2/3GB of RAM and 16/32GB of expandable internal storage. The phone is powered by the Snapdragon 617 64-bit octa-core SoC, and a 13-megapixel OIS camera is available on the back of the phone along with a dual-LED, dual tone flash.
