Huawei has launched a number of really interesting devices this year, including quite a few smartphones and their Android Wear-powered Huawei Watch smartwatch. The latest high-end device this company has introduced is the Mate S, a smartphone which will be available in a ‘Force Touch’ variant as well. The Mate S was announced during IFA in Berlin back in September, and many people were wondering if Huawei plans to announce the Mate 8 this year or not. That device has leaked a couple of times now, and the rumors were saying that it will arrive in the coming week. Well, now we know it will, read on.
The CEO of Huawei, Yu Chengdong (also known as Richard Yu), has confirmed that the Mate 8 will be launched after all. In the latest interview, Mr. Chengdong has said that the Mate 8 phablet is basically Huawei’s iPhone 6s Plus, which, of course, confirms that the phablet will launch. Now, the company’s CEO did not shed any light on where we might expect the phone to be announced, but we’re guessing it will happen before the end of this year. Huawei is actually expected to announce their Kirin 950 SoC early next month, and the Mate 8 will either launch alongside that chip, or Huawei plans to hold a press conference soon after it.
Now, Huawei has still not confirmed any specs for the Mate 8, but we do have some info thanks to a number of recent leaks. Huawei’s HiSilicon Kirin 950 SoC will most probably fuel this phablet, and according to leaks, it will come in both 3 and 4GB RAM variants. The former will ship with 32GB of internal storage, and the latter will come with 64GB of native storage. The 21-megapixel shooter will be available on the back of this phablet, and the device will be made out of aluminum. The ‘Force Touch‘ is also rumored to be a part of this phablet, which was to be expected considering the Mate S is also sporting it, well, one version of that phone. It is still unknown if Huawei plans to release a special ‘Force Touch’ variant for the Mate 8 as well, or will all its variant sport that feature.
