We’ve seen a large number of really compelling handsets being launched this year. Samsung has introduced four new flagship devices, including two smartphone and two phablets. LG has released two, while Motorola and OnePlus added one each. Some companies, like Sony, decided to release a whole flagship line of devices, etc. These are only some mentions, of course, this year was truly filled with really compelling devices.
That being said, we’ve also seen quite a few mobile processors being implemented in those devices, but one of them actually managed to stand out, Samsung’s Exynos 7420 64-bit octa-core processor. This chip is made on a 14nm manufacturing process, and was regarded as one of the best, if not the best, SoC this year. Well, considering that, it’s not all that surprising that 5 out of 10 smartphones on AnTuTu’s Top 10 smartphones in the third quarter of this year are powered by that SoC.
AnTuTu has released their chart for Q3 2015, and if you take a look at the first image down below, you’ll get to see the whole list. The first 5 smartphones are powered by Samsung’s Exynos 7420 SoC, and interesting enough, the first-placed device is not a Samsung-branded smartphone. Meizu’s recently released PRO 5 smartphone is actually up top, and is followed by the Galaxy Note 5, S6 Edge Plus, S6 and S6 Edge. Meizu PRO 5 managed to score 76,582 points, while the second-placed Galaxy Note 5 scored 72,156.
The second part of this chart is claimed by Snapdragon 810-powered devices. The 5th and 6th placed handset comes from Letv, the Le 1 Pro and Le Max. The two devices managed to score 62,520 and 61,327 points, respectively. The 7th placed device is Sony’s Xperia Z5, and that handset is followed by Xiaomi Mi Note Pro and OnePlus 2 who scored 57,163 and 57,119, respectively.
As you all know, benchmarks aren’t everything and really don’t have to reflect how well a device performs, but they’re at least a guideline, and show how a powerful each SoC is. This list clearly shows the power of Exynos 7420, though the Snapdragon 810 isn’t all that far behind. What’s even more interesting, is that all 10 slots in this list are taken by Exynos 7420 and Snapdragon 810-powered devices.
