Meizu has announced five devices thus far this year, the Meizu M1, M2, M2 Note, MX5 and PRO 5. The latter two devices are the company’s high-end offerings, while the first three are entry-level and mid-range smartphones. That being said, the latest device this China-based smartphone OEM has announced is the PRO 5, which is also the company’s most powerful device to date. The Meizu M2 Note was announced back in June, while its predecessor has landed back in December 2014. Assuming Meizu plans to stick to their release cycle, the M3 Note should arrive before the end of the year, and according to a new leak that might happen sooner than expected, read on.
The company has released an official image on their official Weibo (Chinese social media) webpage in which they tease an upcoming October 21st event. Now, the company did not reveal what will they announce at the event, but we believe it will either be a new variant of the M2 Note, or the M3 Note handset. The Meizu M57A has actually surfaced on TENAA yesterday, and according to that listing, the phone will sport a 5.5-inch 1080p (1920 x 1080) 2.5D curved display along with 2GB of RAM and 32GB of internal storage. The 13-megapixel camera will be located on its back, and a 5-megapixel shooter will be available up front. The phone will be powered by an octa-core SoC clocked at 2GHz, and if TENAA’s listing is correct, the phone will be fueled by the YunOS 3.1.6.
Now, if this device will really run YunOS, then it’s probably a new variant of the M2 Note, not the M3 Note. The M3 Note will almost certainly going to be powered by Android with Meizu’s Flyme UI installed on top of it. That’s not all though, Chinese media started getting event invitations from Meizu, and to make things interesting, Meizu has basically revealed that the upcoming device will sport a metallic back cover. This is kind of mind boggling considering it seems odd Meizu would release a new M2 Note variant made out of metal and put YunOS on top of it. So, the questions remains, will Meizu announce a new variant of M2 Note, or will we see M3 Note announced ahead of time?
