Motorola DROID Maxx 2 Specifications

Verizon’s DROID line of devices consists out of Motorola-made smartphones, the two companies have collaborated many times before. Well, the two companies have just announced two new ‘DROID’ devices, the DROID Turbo 2 and DROID Maxx 2. We’ve covered the initial announcements of both of these devices already, and have talked more in-depth about Turbo 2’s specifications. Well, we’re here to do the same for the DROID Maxx 2, let’s see what this phone has to offer in terms of specs, shall we.

The original DROID Maxx has been announced back in July 2013, so no matter the way you look at it, DROID Maxx 2 is a significant upgrade. The DROID Maxx 2 features a 5.5-inch 1080p (1920 x 1080, 403 PPI) display with Corning’s Gorilla Glass 3 on top, 2GB of RAM and 16GB of native storage (expandable up to 128GB via microSD card). This handset is powered by the Snapdragon 615 64-bit octa-core SoC running at 1.7GHz, Qualcomm’s mid-range chip we’re very familiar with. The Adreno 405 GPU is also a part of the package, and is in charge of graphics rendering. The 21-megapixel snapper (zero shutter lag + rapid autofocus, f/2.0 aperture, PDAF) is available on the back of this handset along with a dual-LED CCT flash and rapid autofocus. The 5-megapixel shooter (wide-angle lens) is located on the front side of the DROID Maxx 2.

The 3,630mAh battery is available on the inside of the DROID Maxx 2, a battery which will get you 8 hours of use if you charge it up for 15 minutes according to the carrier. The trim around this device is metallic, and you’ll find plastic o the back. The DROID Maxx also pack in a stereo set of front-facing speakers, which are always welcomed. This phone probably reminds you of the Moto X Play handset which was announced by Motorola earlier this year, but wasn’t meant for the US market. Well, the DROID Maxx 2 is more or less Verizon’s Moto X Play. Verizon has also announced that a number of accessories will be available for this handset, Motorola’s Grip and Flip Shells.

On top of all of this, it is worth mentioning that the DROID Maxx 2 is water repellent, and that you’ll need a Nano SIM card in order to use the antenna on this device. Android 5.1.1 Lollipop comes pre-installed on this smartphone, while the device measures 148 x 75 x 8.9-10.9mm, and it weighs 169 grams. The DROID Maxx 2 will be available from Verizon (and retail partners) starting October 29th for $16 per month on a contract.
