The Nexus 5X from Google is reportedly receiving an OTA (Over the Air) update as of Wednesday. While the official changelog isn’t immediately available, it is believed that the update just brings along some minor bug fixes and doesn’t really add any new features to the device, seeing as the Android version remains on 6.0.0 after installing the update. The download is about 42 MB in size, and updates the Nexus 5X to software version MDB08I. It was earlier in the week, that Google posted the Android 6.0 Marshmallow factory images for the smartphone, and the aforesaid build was one of the three that were uploaded by the company to be downloaded and flashed onto the Nexus 5X. The smartphone only started shipping to buyers earlier this week and the very first set of buyers have just started receiving their devices over the past few days.
The Nexus 5X is one of the two smartphones released by Google this year as part of its Nexus lineup of smartphones running pure, unskinned Android. While the smaller Nexus 5X mid-ranger is made by South Korean consumer electronics company LG Electronics, the flagship Nexus 6P is manufactured by Chinese multinational company, Huawei Technologies. As for the pricing, the Nexus 5X comes with a price-tag starting at $379 in the US for the 16 GB version and goes up to $429 for the 32 GB model. The larger Nexus 6P meanwhile, starts at $499 for the 32 GB model, while the 64 GB and the 128 GB versions are priced at $549 and $649 respectively.
Coming to a quick recap of the hardware specs of the Nexus 5X, the smartphone features a 5.2-inch 1080p display. The handset is powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 808 chip, and comes with 2 GB of RAM and comes with an option of either 16 or 32 GB of internal storage. The handset comes with a 12.3-megapixel primary camera with a dual-LED, dual tone flash and Laser Detect Autofocus. The smartphone comes with a 2,700 mAh battery and sports a fingerprint reader on the back, making use of Nexus Imprint. The smartphone also happens to be the first device along with the Nexus 6P, to run Android 6.0 Marshmallow out of the box.
