Possible Droid Turbo 2 Moto Maker Backs Leak Out

While the Moto G and the Moto X might be the main focus for Motorola, since 2009 they’ve been producing smartphones exclusively for Verizon under the Droid moniker. Each year, a new smartphone – or new family of smartphones – is available for use exclusively on Verizon’s network. Often these devices offer up excellent specifications, features and great battery life while still retailing for the same amount on Big Red’s network. Recently, Verizon teased the upcoming Droid Turbo 2, and as we would have thought, it seems to sport some serious Moto X Pure DNA, and there could be one more big Motorola piece of the puzzle that the Droid line will be getting as well; Moto Maker.

According to the leaked image above, the Droid Turbo 2 will be available from Moto Maker in a couple of differ materials and a number of different colors. The leak comes from China’s Weibo network, and while there’s a good chance that these are fakes, we wouldn’t be surprised if Verizon were willing to release a little more control to Motorola over a device they’re in charge of designing and creating. If this does turn out to be true, this would be a big deal, as the Droid line of devices have traditionally been offered in either black or red options, and feature Kevlar designs, which are often more manly than they are anything else. With different materials, such as leather, and different colors this year’s Droid Turbo 2 could appeal to a much wider audience, even though it will only be available on Verizon’s network.

Whether or not the Droid Turbo 2 will be able to be purchased directly from Motorola remains to be seen, and there’s a good chance that if Moto Maker will be available that Verizon will control and maintain things themselves. Giving only Motorola the task of manufacturing the devices. One thing that does seem all but certain is that the Droid Turbo 2 is more than likely to ship with hardware similar to the Moto X Pure, including a 5.7-inch Quad HD display and a large battery.
