Google has hinted that they’re getting ready to redesign the Google Play Store recently. The Mountain View giant has teased the upcoming new version of Google Play Store in which they intend to separate entertainment from apps. Google tends to re-design the Play Store every once in a while both to keep it from becoming stale in terms of looks, and also to add some functionality to it. That being said, it seems like the update has started hitting devices all over the place, read on.
According to a report from Android Authority, some users have already started receiving the new version of Google Play Store. This basically means that the rest of us should get it shortly, so keep your eyes peeled. Anyhow this new version of the Play Store does bring some UI tweaks along with the separate categorization for entertainment and apps. The home button placements have been re-positioned and are now actually curved, not rectangular, which makes the whole app look somewhat different.
If you take a look at the screenshots below, you’ll also notice that Google has decided to leave a large area for featured products and images up top. The app recommendations didn’t really move, they’re still located at the bottom of the homepage and look more or less the same. As you can see, you now have two tabs below the featured image up top, ‘Apps & Games’ and ‘Entertainment’. Both of these categories split into a number of sub-categories, which you can check out down below. Under ‘Apps & Games’ you’ll find Top Charts, Games, Family… and so on, and of course ‘Categories’ option is also still available here. Movies, Music, Books, Newsstand… have all been moved to the ‘Entertainment’ section.
You basically still have all the options you had before, but they’re categorized differently this time around. Despite somewhat significant re-shifting inside the app, you should have too many issues getting used to this, everything seems quite logical as far as categorization goes, and that’s always a good thing. We’ll take a closer look at the app as soon as we manage to get our hands on it. Keep your eyes opened, the new version of Google Play Store is on the way.
