When it comes to smartphones, typically at this time of year, most of the big talking points in the Android world would surround the latest Nexus devices. To be clear, this year is not any different in that respect, with Nexus talk dominating most of the headlines. However, this year has been a little bit different thanks to BlackBerry’s debut Android device, the BlackBerry PRIV. While debut devices do not always typically attract so much attention, this is different as it is BlackBerry and many eyes are watching to see if their transition from their own operating system to that of Android proves to be a successful one. In fact, even the company has hinted that the PRIV could be a make or break device for them which does highlight how important of a device the PRIV is likely to be in the industry.
Up until now, the PRIV has been noted as available to pre-order in certain regions. Most notably, the UK through Carphone Warehouse, although, earlier today more pre-orders news began to emerge for carriers in Canada with both Bell and Rogers seemingly commencing their pre-orders for the PRIV. Well, it is now starting to look as though orders might actually be coming to the U.S. soon enough as well. BlackBerry had already opened a registration page where interested parties could register their interest, however, that may very well be about to change to an order status.
A new advert which is now showing up (see below) comes with some very clear wording which reads “Order Friday at BlackBerry.com/PrivacyOn“. Now, at the moment there is no official word on whether pre-order or orders will open in the U.S. this week, however, it has been speculated that the PRIV would begin shipping and become widely available sometime in the first week of November. With that time-frame in mind and with the recent Canada information starting to come the light, it does seem to make sense that they could open in the U.S. this week. This would give the company a couple of weeks before the likely November shipping estimate.
