Samsung is well-known for their Galaxy S and Galaxy Note devices, but this Korea-based smartphone OEM releases a ton of low and mid-range devices as well. The latest addition to that list is the Galaxy Active Neo, a rugged smartphone which was announced by the company in Japan earlier today. This is actually a version of the handset for a Japan-based carrier NTT DoCoMo, and we still don’t know if Samsung intends to sell it unlocked, or will it be available through other carriers in Japan in the future.
The Galaxy Active Neo sports a 4.5-inch 800 x 480 display along with 2GB of RAM and 16GB of internal storage (expandable up to 128GB via microSD card). The 480p display and 2GB of RAM seem like an interesting combination for an affordable, device you don’t see such combinations very often. Anyhow, this smartphone is powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 410 64-bit quad-core SoC clocked at 1.2GHz along with an Adreno 306 GPU for graphics. The 8-megapixel shooter is available on the back of this phone, and a 2-megapixel snapper can be found on its front side. The Bluetooth 4.1 and 4G LTE connectivity are also available here, and same can be said about the 2,200mAh battery which is also a part of this package. The Galaxy Active Neo measures 133 x 70 x 10.1mm, while it weighs 154 grams.
Now, you may notice I mentioned that this phone is rugged, hence the ‘Active’ part of its name. The Galaxy Active Neo is both dust and waterproof, and due to its rugged body you can basically drop it from heights up to 1.5m without consequences. The Galaxy Active Neo looks like a smaller and cheaper variant of Samsung’s other ‘Active’ devices, which it is. The device still looks nice for a rugged phone though. Anyhow, the Galaxy Active Neo will be available in Japan through NTT DoCoMo early next month, and this phone will also be available in other areas of the in the future as well, but we still don’t have any specific info as far as that is concerned. The phone is priced at $166 in Japan, in case you were wondering. Stay tuned for additional info.
