Samsung has released four flagship devices this year, two smartphones and two phablets. The Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge smartphones have been launched in March, and we still have a couple of months before their successor(s) launches. As it usually goes, the Galaxy S7 rumors have started coming in really early, we’ve been seeing them pop up all over the place for weeks now, and one of them actually reported that Galaxy S7 might sport two cameras on the back. Well, according to the newly surfaced rumor in Korea, that might not be the case, at least not as far as Galaxy S7 is concerned, read on.
According to a South Korean publication, ETNews, Samsung is developing a dual-camera solution, but not for the Galaxy S7. The source claims that Samsung plans to analyze the market after the release the Galaxy S7 and see what would be the best approach to use the dual-camera tech. This sure seems like they might release yet another new line of smartphones which will pack in this new tech. An industry insider claims that the dual-camera solution will add production cost to the device, and will also require Samsung to alter their design in order to accommodate the new sensors.
Unfortunately, we don’t really have any info regarding these camera sensors at the moment, but we’re sure something will pop up in the coming weeks. Samsung will definitely not be the first company to deploy two cameras on a smartphone, we’ve seen tons of devices already sporting two cameras on the back, and LG’s V10 handset which was released yesterday features two such sensors up front.
So, based on this report from China, it seems like the Galaxy S7 will sport a single sensor one the back after all. According to previous leaks, the device will be released in two variants, one of which will ship with a Qualcomm chip (quite probably the Snapdragon 820), and the other one will sport Samsung’s very own Exynos SoC (8890 probably). That’s more or less it. If any additional news regarding the Galaxy S7 or Samsung’s dual-camera tech surfaces, we’ll definitely let you know, stay tuned.
