Samsung is currently the number one smartphone manufacturer in the world, and the company has introduced a number of compelling devices this year. Along with all that hardware, this Korea-based tech giant has also announced their payment system called Samsung Pay. The service was announced earlier this year, while it became available to the US resident last month. According to the latest report, Samsung Pay is extremely successful in Samsung’s homeland already, and it remains to be seen if it will be as nearly as successful elsewhere.
That being said, this company has also introduced a number of smartwatches in the last year or so, and it was just a matter of time before the company decided to include their payment service on one of their smartwatch offerings. The Gear S2 is a Tizen-powered smartwatch which was released by Samsung quite recently, though this watch doesn’t pack in Samsung Pay, future Samsung-based smartwatch offerings might. ”Samsung’s next smartwatch will have Samsung Pay. You will be able to use the service soon,” said Will Graylin, CEO of Loop Pay in charge of developing the core technology for Samsung Pay.
Mr. Graylin has also confirmed that the company plans to expand this service to all of Samsung’s models: ”At the moment, Samsung Pay is only available on some of Samsung’s premium smartphones. But it will spread to smart watches and low and mid-priced smartphones too,” he said. Now, these are good news if services like Samsung Pay are your thing, of course. If something like Samsung, Google or Apple Pay becomes mainstream, our payments could become much easier all over the globe, though that’s not the case just yet.
Mr. Graylin failed to mention when will we see the first Samsung-branded smartwatch to feature Samsung Pay, but he did mention it will happen ‘soon’. Same goes for Samsung’s low and mid-range smartphone offerings actually. It is also worth mentioning that over 100,000 payments have been made a day on average using Samsung Pay according to a recent report, which does indicate the services is quite successful already.
