Sony To Launch Xperia Z5 & Z5 Premium In India Next Week

Sony will launch its flagship Xperia Z5 and Z5 Premium smartphones in India next week, according to reports in the Indian media. The Japanese consumer electronics company has reportedly sent invites to the press for an event to be held in the capital city of New Delhi on the 21st of October. The smartphones are part of Sony’s new flagship range that was unveiled by the company at the IFA trade show in Berlin, last month. Alongside the two aforementioned devices that Sony is expected to launch in India later this month, the company also introduced the Xperia Z5 Compact at the IFA back in September.

There’s no word however, as to whether that device too will be launched in the country on the given date, giving one to understand that the device will not be launched alongside the two other devices. It remains to be seen whether the smallest of Sony’s 2015 flagship lineup gets launched at all in the country, given the Indian smartphone-buyers’ penchant for large-screened handsets. As for the two devices that are actually expected to reach the Indian shores, Sony is believed to bring the dual SIM versions to the country. Globally, the smartphones are available in White, Graphite Black, Gold and Green colors, and it remains to be seen as to how many of those options make it to the country.

Coming to the hardware specs of the smartphones, the Xperia Z5 Premium is the very first device from a mainstream manufacturer to come with a 4K (2160 x 3840) display resolution. The device features a 5.5-inch IPS LCD capacitive touchscreen display with an eye-popping 806 dpi pixel density. As for the Xperia Z5, it features a comparatively smaller 5.2-inch IPS LCD display panel with a 1080p resolution. Both devices are powered by the Snapdragon 810 SoC from Qualcomm, and come with 3 GB of RAM and 32 GB of internal storage. Both smartphones carry 23-megapixel primary cameras which come with phase detection autofocus. The handsets also support Quick Charge 2.0, although the larger device carries a non-removable 3,430 mAh Li-Ion battery as opposed to the 2,900 mAh unit found on the Z5. Android 5.1.1 Lolllipop will come pre-installed on both smartphones, but Sony has promised Marshmallow updates for both at a later date.
