Super AppLock is a free Android app, without ads, that helps users protect apps from their little ones, keep secret photos and files safe, and make it difficult for others to get access to your private content. Super AppLock offers up 22 different languages, the ability to lock files, photos and selected apps behind a secret PIN or pattern. More than that however, users can choose a disguised screen for the app lock, such as a Force Close or Fingerprint message. There are tons of different themes available as well, to lighten things up and make the app look less deceptive, and you can even ask Super AppLock to take a Selfie of the intruder trying to get access to your private apps and files. So, let’s take a closer look, shall we?
To get your hands on Super AppLock, there’s nothing too difficult involved, all you need to do is download it from the Play Store and then load it up to get started.
When you first get the app going, it will already choose some standard apps to lock. The Play Store is a good choice, as it can stop the little ones purchasing apps and installing junk to your phone without you knowing. You can add to this list right away however, like your favorite SMS app for instance.
You can add to this list of locked apps whenever you like though, and you’ll need to set either a pattern or a PIN.
Should you be running Android 5.0 Lollipop and above, you’ll have to grant access to Super AppLock to be able to do its job:
Once you have everything setup, you can take a look at all the extra features in the slide-out menu from the side:
Some of the more interesting features here are the Photo Vault, Video Vault and Files. You can use Super AppLock to keep certain content locked away so other people can’t get their hands on it.
You can add videos and photos from wherever you want, and the same can be said for your files, too. In order to throw people off the scene, you can set up different lock screens for your locked apps and files, too.
These fake covers work really well. Here, I have tried to open the Play Store – which I have now locked – and it just looks as if the app has Force Closed on me:
Furthermore, you can choose from different themes to make the PIN or pattern lock look a little different, too.
For example, Halloween is coming up, so you might want to use the Super AppLock Halloween theme on your device, to keep things safe, while lightening the mood as well.
Super AppLock has a whole lot on offer, and even though these apps aren’t exactly new these days, there’s little reason to not give this a try and see if it’s something that you might need or benefit from on your device. Besides, it is free without ads. Not only does it deliver on its promise of locking away your chosen apps, but it’s nice and easy to use, and the disguised lock screens are fairly convincing overall, and with the Force Close one in particular you won’t offend anyone. There are plenty of reasons why you might need something like this, hiding things from your significant other – not advisable by this Editor! – or, the most common option, needing to lock apps away from the little ones. Super AppLock does exactly what it says it does with minimal fuss, and everything is straightforward and easy to use, too.

- Does exactly what it says it does, works well with disguised screens as well.
- Different themes allow users a little more customization and it won’t confuse children using your phone on their own.
- Locking photos and files away is another way of keeping “certain photos” away from kids, as well as making sure your friends don’t see something only intended for you.
Cons
- Photo unlock option would be nice to see.
- Better look on tablets needed, as a lot of kids use a shared tablet to play games and mess around where they couldn’t.
