TAG Heuer Image Teases Connected Smartwatch

Smartwatches are slowly becoming more popular products, they are meant to display notifications and other information at a glance, so that a smartphone could remain in the pocket a little longer. Manufacturers of smartphones and other mobile products have been making smartwatches for a while now, while brands dedicated to making traditional wristwatches, have opted to not directly compete with the tech companies and instead, have been considering building watches which include some “smart” features. They might not come with a color display or one that covers almost all the face of the watch, but by including some degree of connectivity, they display some useful information.

Tech companies have experimented with different form factors and different materials so that their smartwatches look more appealing to a wider audience and not only to those who appreciate having the latest and greatest gadgets. We have known for a while that the Swiss company TAG Heuer, which specializes in making luxury products, is planning on releasing a smartwatch. More recently, we found out that the smartwatch would be released on November 9th, according to the company’s CEO. Details have been scarce regarding the approach that the company would take with this “smart” product, but it could cost around $1,400 and “it will look like a normal watch”.

Now, the company has launched a website called TAG Heuer Connected (a possible name for the watch) with a countdown timer for the launch date where users can register to get the latest news on the product. The site also includes a timeline for those who would like to know a little more about the history of the company and in 2015 the following can be read: “TAG Heuer is pushing the Swiss avant-garde limits even further with the TAG Heuer Connected. Tradition meets innovation, craftsmanship meets savoir-faire, and bold style meets breakthrough technology. The clock is ticking to the major breakthrough.”

To make things even more intriguing, the company has shared the first official image of the watch through their Twitter account. It doesn’t reveal too much, as only about 1/3 of the watch is visible, but the solid build quality and attention to detail can be appreciated in all of its elements, including the metallic button, the numerals on the bezel and even the name TAG Heuer Connected can be seen engraved there, too. The band on this image features a subtle blue color, but probably there will be more bands available at launch. Rumor has it that it will run Android Wear, but we will have to wait a little longer to confirm this and other details like the kind of sensors which are integrated.
