The BlackBerry PRIV is finally official, marking an important part of BlackBerry’s history as they set out to achieve profitable status within the next two quarters. There’s still no exact release date for the first Android-powered BlackBerry device but just to know that it’s actually happening has got to make some consumers happy, especially those who may have been past BlackBerry device users but simply needed more out of their device. For example, apps. Other than the price point, and when and where the device will launch, there’s also missing details on the exact specifications of the phone which are still yet unknown, although basic specs like the screen size and the rear camera quality as well as the Android version have all been confirmed.
Today some new leaked images and details reveal that the BlackBerry PRIV will come equipped with a 64-bit processor, specifically tipped as the Snapdragon 808 hexa-core processor accompanied by the Adreno 418 GPU for graphics processing. In addition to the Snapdragon CPU/Adreno GPU setup, utilizing the 18MP rear camera it appears the BlackBerry PRIV will be capable of recording video at up to 30fps in 4K resolution, putting it on par with quite a few other current flagship smartphones from other OEMs which also feature such a functionality.
While the 4K video recording and the use of a 64-bit processor appear to be clear as day thanks to the images, there’s no actual confirmation on which CPU the phone uses just yet. The expected release date for the PRIV is supposed to be next month but it isn’t clear which regions that applies to for the initial launch. As Canada is BlackBerry’s home base, chances are North America is a likely launch pad, but there’s no word on carriers yet either. In case you missed some of the past details of the device after the official reveal, it features the sliding QWERTY keyboard that lies underneath the 5.5-inch dual edge display, but is for more than just typing as BB CEO John Chen confirmed the keyboard also acts a bio-sensitive touch pad. There is still more that is unknown about the device when it comes to hardware, but those details should be mad available as the launch gets closer.
