Unboxing & First Impressions of the BLU Energy X

BLU has announced a couple of new smartphones in their Energy lineup today, with the Energy X being the second announced today. This is a smartphone that they are selling unlocked and contract-free for just $109. And because it’s an “Energy” model, that means we are looking at around 4000mAh in the battery department. Accompanying it we have a 5-inch IPS 1280×720 resolution display, a quad-core 1.3GHz processor, 8MP camera on the back with a 2MP front-facing shooter. There’s also a gigabyte of RAM as well as Android 5.1 Lollipop. Now there is 8GB of storage available, with around 3.63GB of storage available out of the box.

Now we’ve had this phone for an entire 24 hours, so this is not a review, but just first impressions of this device. And quite honestly, the first impressions are quite good. This is a Dual SIM device here from BLU, and that means you can use T-Mobile and AT&T at the same time. Unfortunately this is a GSM device, so it won’t work on Verizon or Sprint. The phone does feel rather nice in the hand, while it’s definitely not metal, it doesn’t really feel cheap. Even though it is kind of a cheap smartphone. However the colored chin and forehead on the front, I’m not sure how I feel about that. It’s definitely something different.

On the software side, we’re looking at Android 5.1 Lollipop as we mentioned before. It is mostly a stock Android experience here. There are a few changes here, but not many at all. Most of the changes are in the launcher, to be honest. And if you don’t like that, you can slap Nova or any other launcher on and you’re good to go. The device is quite quick, thanks to the MediaTek 6580 quad-core processor that is available inside. So far, the 1GB of RAM hasn’t limited the device’s performance as much as I had thought it might.

The BLU Energy X is available right now from Amazon for just $109. Which is a pretty decent price for the amount of phone you get here, especially with that whopping 4000mAh battery that is inside.
