Unboxing & First Impressions of the BLU Studio Energy 2

BLU is a company that most of you haven’t heard about, more than likely. But they are based out of Florida, and sell smartphones that are really cheap. I mean really cheap. They had a phone a few years back that was selling for just $40, unlocked and off contract. Not even making this up. BLU gives a new definition to the term “gadget spam”, but I think they do it in a great way, as no two smartphones they sell are priced the same. Today, we’re taking a look at the BLU Studio Energy 2.

This is the latest from BLU, and it’s in an elite group. Only a handful of smartphones from BLU have 4G LTE and the Studio Energy 2 is one of those. It also packs a massive 5000mAh battery, which powers a quad-core 1.3GHz processor, 1.5GB of RAM and a 5-inch 720p display. So this battery is going to last forever, and then some. Now we’ve only had it a day, so pretty tough to gauge battery life in just a day of use.

One of the surprising facts about this phone is the build quality. It feels really, really nice in the hand, it actually shocked me when I took it out of the box. It is made of metal as well. Well, it’s a metal frame, the back is actually plastic and removable. However the battery is not. The back is removable for the dual SIM card slots and the microSD card slot. We’re looking at sort of vanilla Android, but not quite. There are a few differences, like the launcher and the settings app. But overall it seems to be a pretty decent device.

This is an LTE device, and it will work with LTE from both AT&T and T-Mobile, and in fact you can use LTE from both at the same time since it has dual-SIM card slots. Which is a really nice addition. The Studio Energy 2 is available for $179, and of course that is without a contract and unlocked. You can pick it up from Amazon right now.
