The race for Android 6.0 (Marshmallow) is now very firmly on. As was the case this time last year (and right up until the middle of this year), manufacturers will be scrambling to port over the latest version of Android to their respective devices. Some of their devices anyway. In a similar vein, Android device owners will be equally waiting for them to get the go sign to download the update and install Marshmallow on their devices. So far, LG has been very quick and established themselves as a front runner in the race by announcing, that starting from next week the LG G4 in Poland will begin to receive Android 6.0.
Thankfully, for some, they do not have to wait for their manufacturers or their carriers to finish porting over Marshmallow as unofficial builds normally hit the market much earlier. While for most of these you might need to be rooted, it can be the difference between running the latest version of Android now or in six months time or in some cases, not running Marshmalow at all. For instance, in the last 24 hours a build of Marshmallow popped up for the Samsung Galaxy Nexus. Now, it looks like it is the turn of the OnePlus One.
Straight off the bat, it does need to be made clear that this is an unofficial build. In fact, it is a homemade build and comes based on a CAF release along with a kernel based off of CM12.1. There is also a number of ‘known issues’ and these include a poorly performing stock camera, although third party camera apps (like Oppo Camera and CameraNextMod) seem to be working fine. There is also a battery drain issue (although the dev notes that this is a small issue in terms of the level of unnatural battery drain), as well as some features like gestures not working. However, those who have flashed the build so far, are saying that it seems to be working good enough for the most part. As such, if you are interested in giving a homemade OnePlus One Android 6.0 (Marshmallow) port a try, then now you can.
