U.S. Cellular has just lowered its data prices to come on par with the competition. Back in July, the company launched a new promotion to beat Verizon and AT&T prices. Following this “initiative”, the Chicago-based carrier has just announced new prices for its shared data plans, reducing them by $10 on the 1 GB, 3 GB, and 6 GB offerings. As such, you will pay $25 a month for the 1 GB plan, $40 for 3 GB, $55 per 6 GB, $70 per 10 GB, with additional options for more data.
If we analyze the rates and compare with AT&T and Verizon, in some options the recurring prices are indeed lower on U.S. Cellular. The 3 GB plan, for example, will cost you around $13 per gigabyte, against $15 for the two bigger companies. If you use more data, the 6 GB option is $5 cheaper on U.S. Cellular, and if you need a huge amount of data, the 75 GB plan has a lower per-GB cost than AT&T’s 50 GB option. However, it is important to note that there’s the monthly connection charge, which will make prices go higher. At U.S. Cellular, clients on a 2-year contract will pay $40 a month per smartphone, while monthly installment customers will have to pay $20/month for plans of 1 to 6 GB and $15/month for bigger plans. Tablets will cost $10 a month with any plan or contract type. Verizon, on the other hand, has a simpler pricing scheme, charging $20/month per device. As for AT&T, they also complicate there just like U.S. Cellular and users with the 2-year contract will end up paying $40/month per device, $25 a month for up to 5 GB and $15 a month for more than 10 GB. Tablets also cost $10/month.
All these numbers may be confusing. As such, it is important to look at them closely and see which one fits best for your data needs. Additionally, it is worth noting that these prices don’t include the purchase and monthly installment of smartphones, which have to be acquired separately.
