The Xperia Z2 Tablet was released over a year and a half ago and yet this is one of the devices that Sony will update to the latest Android version called Marshmallow. It might take a while before the tablet gets updated to this particular version, but today Verizon is updating the OS version to Android 5.0.2 Lollipop. The build number of the update is 23.1.D.0.508 and this update brings a lot of visual changes as the company created a skin inspired in the Material Design language. Some icons will seem flatter and there are new animations and transitions throughout the whole UI. The changelog mentions that the update includes the latest Android security patches, so it probably means that users will be more protected against the Stagefright vulnerability.
After the update, users will see a summary of the changes brought by this version, the Setup Wizard is now easier to use and they will be able to customize the looks of the tablet by choosing one of the themes that were optimized for Lollipop. A floating icon will appear in some apps, providing quick access to some frequently used functions. The Quick Settings menu offers access to some of the most used features and it can be accessed by swiping twice from the top. Volume controls have been changed to include Sounds, Priority or Silent Modes. Some apps that have been updated are Contacts, E-Mail and Calendar. Sony’s What’s New app now integrates the Update Center and Sony Select. Walkman has been updated as well and it’s now called Music, and Movies is now called Video. Users will be able to see more information from the lock screen with the new interactive notification cards.
Verizon suggests that users download the update using a Wi-Fi connection or make sure that the Verizon Wireless connection is strong enough to handle the download. The size of the download is not specified, but it is probably quite large, so it is probably better to use the former option. It is also recommended to have the device fully charged or plug it into a wall outlet. Users will be able to download the update over-the-air, or they can check for it manually in the Settings menu.
