One of Xiaomi’s best selling phones, the Xiaomi Mi Note looks to be getting a pretty significant upgrade in terms of specification and most notably, the choice of material with it’s next iteration, the Xiaomi Note 2. New details shows that the next generation of Xiaomi’s Mi Note phone could have an all metal construction.
While they are certainly not the first company to take this approach (HTC with its ‘One M’ series and the latest generation of iPhones), it will be their first phone with an all metal deisgn and it is certainly a welcoming change from its predecessor. The Xiaomi Mi Note is mostly plastic with metal trimmings along the sides and a glass back which is by no means an ugly device, but having an all metal construction build will certainly give the phone a more modern and premium look and feel.
In terms of specifications, sources indicate that the Xiaomi Mi Note 2 will have the same 5.7 inch display as the previous generation but gets a resolution bump from 1920×1080 to 2560×1440 2K display, powered by Qualcomm’s latest processor, the Snapdragon 820, with 4GB of RAM and internal storage starts at 32GB instead of 16GB. There is no mention of microSD support at this point in time but it would be a nice feature to have considering the Xiaomi Mi Note did not have one. The rear camera is also expected to get an upgrade from 13 to 16 megapixels.
There have also been rumors of Qualcomm’s ultrasonic fingerprint technology being incorporated into the latest model. Unlike regular fingerprint sensors on flagship smartphones like the Samsung Galaxy Note 5 and iPhone 6S Plus where there is a specific area/button to touch to unlock your device, Qualcomm’s Ultrasonic fingerprint scanners are implemented directly beneath the display panel, so all you have to do is touch the display to unlock the device. Including this innovative technology would be in Xiaomi’s advantage because it saves space at the front which can be used to showcase their 5.7 2k display instead.
The Xiaomi Mi Note 2 looks to be released in early 2016 but expect to see more information and leaks to surface before then.
