We’ve talked about ZUK, a China-based company backed by Lenovo, quite a few times thus far. This company has released one smartphone thus far, though they did release two different models, the Chinese and the international variants. The Chinese variant ships with ZUI, ZUK’s custom UI, while the international variant comes with Cyanogen OS out of the box. Different Android software is the only difference between these two devices, their specs on the inside are identical.
Anyhow, as some of you might know, the ZUK Z1 packs in a rather bit 4,100mAh battery, and it offers great battery life. In case you’d like to read more about ZUK Z1’s battery life, read our full review of this handset. That being said, ZUK wants to keep that battery in top shape for as long as possible, the ZUK Z1 treats battery differently than other phones. ZUK has decided to reach out and explain how ZUK Z1 treats the battery, read on. Most people charge their smartphones during the night, and ZUK says that this is not exactly the best way to treat the battery because most OEMs use a valve-like function, the chargers stop charging the battery once it’s full. This might sound like a great solution, but after the charging stops it starts again after a short period of time, needless to say, this takes a toll on your battery.
Now, ZUK did something rather interesting in order to keep the battery fresh for a longer period of time. The company has implemented another chip into the device which essentially lets the system be powered directly from the charger. What does this mean? Well, once ZUK Z1 stops charging, the charger will power your phone directly, while the battery will sit there fully charged until you unplug your device. It would be nice if more OEMs started doing something like this considering the fact battery life is most probably the number one issue in today’s smartphones. As a reminder, ZUK is planning to release their second flagship, ZUK Z2, in January, and according to ZUK’s teasers, that smartphone will be powered by the upcoming Snapdragon 820 SoC. Stay tuned for more info.
