ZUK is a rather interesting company. This China-based smartphone OEM was founded earlier this year, and is backed by Lenovo. ZUK has already released their first smartphone, the ZUK Z1, and the device comes in two variants. One variant is available in China and ships with the company’s ZUI user interface pre-installed, and the other model is available internationally with Cyanogen OS available on top of Google’s operating system. Both variants of the phone are available already, the Chinese variant is available in, well, China, and the international model can be purchased in a number of countries all over Europe via Amazon.

The ZUK Z1 ships with Android 5.1.1 Lollipop, and we were wondering when will the device get Android 6.0 Marshmallow update. Well, the company’s founder had something to say regarding that. Chenyu has released some info on Weibo (Chinese social network) saying that the company is working hard to update ZUK Z1 to Android 6.0 Marshmallow. He said that the company will push the update to the Chinese variant of the device before March next year, though he did not mention the international version yet. We’re guessing that the international variant of the device might get updated in that same timeframe, but that depends on Cyanogen. Either way, we’ll let you know if any additional info surface regarding that.

ZUK Z1 features a 5.5-inch fullHD (1920 x 1080) IPS LCD display, 3GB of RAM and 64GB of non-expandable internal storage. The device is powered by the Snapdragon 801 quad-core SoC along with an Adreno 330 GPU for graphics. The 13-megapixel shooter is available on the back of this device, and an 8-megapixel camera can be found up front. The 4,100mAh non-removable battery is available on the inside, and the phone also sports a physical home button below the display which doubles as a fingerprint scanner. This is a dual-SIM device which offers 4G LTE connectivity, while it ships with Android 5.1.1 Lollipop pre-installed, as mentioned above. The device measures 155.7 x 77.3 x 8.9mm, while it weighs 175 grams.

That’s more or less it. We’ll let you know if any additional ZUK Z1 update news surface. As a side note, it is worth mentioning that ZUK is already working on developing their next handset which will be powered by the upcoming Snapdragon 820 SoC.
