Earlier in the year, back in April as it happens, Acer revealed the Liquid X2 smartphone, which is a lower end device with a couple of interesting features. The first is that is has a 4,000 mAh battery (around and about the size of both Nexus 7 tablets) and second because it features three LTE-enabled SIM slots. Malaysian website SoyaCincau have written a report stating that Acer have confirmed that the device is going on sale in Asia in January 2016, although at this juncture we do not have any indication of the likely price of the device.
In terms of specification, the Liquid X2 is based around a 5.5-inch, 720p resolution (that is, 720 by 1,280 pixel) IPS LCD panel. There’s a 64-bit, octa-core MediaTek System-on-Chip of unknown model backed up by 3 GB of RAM together with 32 GB of internal storage. Acer have given the X2 a rear mounted 13MP camera, and on the front there’s a camera of the same resolution for selfies and video calling. The device comes with a near-stock looking Android 5.1 Lollipop installation and a special flip cover that allows customers to view notifications without opening it up. We understand that the Liquid X2 will be available in both black and gold colors. However, the Liquid X2’s key features are the combination of three LTE-enabled SIM slots plus that high capacity battery. This could be the idea device for jet setters the world over.
At the same time as the Liquid X2, Acer also released three other Liquid-branded devices into Malaysia: the entry level Z330, the mid-range Z530 and the upper mid-range Z630. These devices were originally announced during the IFA show back in September and have been released almost three months later. To write of the Acer Liquid Z330 first, this smartphone is based around a 4.5-inch, 854 by 480 pixel screen (known as FWVGA) and a quad core, 32-bit, Qualcomm Snapdragon 210 processor with a maximum clock speed of 1.1 GHz. The Snapdragon 210 is backed up by 1 GB of RAM and there’s 8 GB of internal storage plus a microSD card. Acer have given the Z330 a 5MP rear camera and a 2,000 mAh battery. The Liquid Z530 is a more powerful device across the board, being powered by the quad core, 64-bit, 1.3 GHz MediaTek MT6735 System-on-Chip paired up with 2 GB of RAM. There’s 16 GB of internal storage plus a microSD card, a 5.0-inch, 720p resolution IPS LCD and an 8MP main camera. The Z530 uses a slightly larger battery, 2,420 mAh. The third model, the Acer Liquid Z630, uses the same chipset as the Z530 (the 64-bit MediaTek chip) but has a 5.5-inch 720p display, a 4,000 mAh battery and 8MP front and rear cameras. All three of these devices come with Android 5.1 Lollipop under the Acer Liquid user interface.
