When it comes to software updates, usually only the biggest flagships and popular devices get upgraded to the newest versions of software in a rather quick and timely manner. Such is the case with Samsung’s Galaxy S5 which started getting Android 5.1.1 Lollipop as early as the end of June 2015. This of course, was the T-Mobile model, while the AT&T model didn’t seem to get the update to the very same software until late October, some two or three weeks after the Galaxy Note 4 and Galaxy Note Edge. As of today, AT&T is updating their other version of the Galaxy S5 to Android 5.1.1 as well, the Galaxy S5 Active.
Why this didn’t get the update around the time of the original Galaxy S5 is unclear, but for those who are using the more sport-friendly model of Samsung’s 2014 flagship phone, you’ll be able to download and install the latest version of the software soon enough as the rollouts have begun from today. The file size of the update weighs in at 640MB total so this is no small update, meaning users should expect it to take lat least 10 minutes or more to download and finish the install process through to completion. It’s also a good idea to have more than half your phone’s battery life available before attempting the upgrade process.
As for what’s coming along as new changes or improvements in this software update, AT&T states that users with the Galaxy S5 Active will now have Android for Work support, a huge benefit to those who may want to use their personal device for work-related purposes as part of this standard. This update also includes a fix for a power-related problem that some users were experiencing that was causing problems for Ultra Power Saving Mode on encrypted devices. The last noted change besides the initial update to a new software version is the security updates, now making the Galaxy S5 Active more secure and safe from various privacy risks which have been plaguing Android devices over the last few months or more. If you have the update available and ready to go, it’s suggested to hook your device up to WiFi to begin the download.
