With Thanksgiving coming up this week, at least here in the United States, Google has decided to start a new campaign with Android Pay that starts today and lasts through December 31st. And it’s actually rather brilliant. For every purchase made with Android Pay, $1 will go to Special Needs Education Projects, as highlighted in Google’s Android Blog post this morning. The reason why this is brilliant is because it gets more users using Android Pay, and it also gives back to those with special needs. Something many of us will be doing this holiday season. In addition to that, every purchase made on Black Friday (that’s November 27th) with Android Pay will be doubled for Special Needs Education Projects. So instead of $1 for every purchase, it’ll be $2. And Google will be doing this up to $1 million. The best part is, this won’t cost you a penny.
To get started, you’ll need to download the Android Pay app, if it isn’t installed automatically on your smartphone. Then you will need to login to the app and add in your credit cards and debit cards. Some loyalty cards are also eligible to be saved in Android Pay, full support is coming soon though. And now at stores that accept Android Pay, you’ll be able to simply tap your phone on the payment terminal and approve the amount. If you have a Nexus 6P or Nexus 5X, you’ll be able to simply approve the transaction by using the fingerprint sensor.
Android Pay is Google’s second attempt at doing mobile payments, and so far it’s been a bigger success than Google Wallet was. Although many still are not using it. Google has stated that they do have plenty of plans coming for Android Pay. Including more support for loyalty cards, gift cards and much more. There will also be plenty of promotions coming soon, the Android Pay team has mentioned a Coca-Cola one coming soon. So we’ll be on the look out for that. Android Pay is one of the simplest ways to pay, and it also means you can leave your wallet at home now.
