Mobile games have come quite a long way in the last few years, but no matter the platform or what kind of games you prefer, everyone needs a little adventure now and again. So, we’ve put together a list of some of the top Adventure games for Android. With all of the free time you might have coming up over the next few days, these games just might provide the excitement you need to carry you through.
Amelia – Kids Story Book
Kicking off this list is an interactive storybook adventure geared towards the kids, so if you need something to keep the little ones occupied while you converse with the adults at this week’s family gatherings, this should do the trick. While this is essentially a story, kids can engage with it by finding hidden objects throughout the book, and at the end of the story if they find every hidden star they can unlock a secret scene. There’s also plenty of 3D animation on offer which is always entertaining.
Miles From Tomorrowland
This is another game aimed at the kids, although this time it’s a proper game. Disney’s Miles From Tomorrowland plays out like a sidescrolling runner with loads of missions to complete, and as you race along on your mechanical ostrich you can do tricks and collect items like rare space rocks to increase your high score.
Shipwreck
Shipwreck is a mix of adventure, puzzle, and survival, and survival is the main goal as you end up stranded (shipwrecked) on a deserted island with no way off it. Search the island for clues, supplies, and other means to bring about your own salvation. Maps are randomly generated too so no two play sessions should feel the same.
Minecraft: Story Mode
Most people should be familiar with the titles from Telltale game at this point, and one of the latest in their lineup is Minecraft: Story Mode. The game features plenty of adventure and a narrative that is mostly shaped by the player, as decisions you make will shift the direction of the story. You’ll find the storytelling prowess that Telltale is known for here mixed with all the blocky goodness that Minecraft players love.
Botanicula
Botanicula is not a new game, but it is an adventure title and a great one at that, coming from the same people who put together the wonderful Machinarium. Together with your band of little creatures, the goal here is to save the last remaining seed from parasites. You’ll encounter puzzles to solve and giant creatures to run from as you traverse tons of beautiful environments that play heavily to visual appeal.
Adventures Of Poco Eco
Adventures of Poco Eco is one of the more visually stunning adventure experiences you’ll find recently. You play as Poco Eco and the goal of the game is to restore the lost sounds to the planet. While the game is visually appealing, it’s also a great audio experience so it’s best played with headphones. There will be puzzles to solve as you explore the different terrain in search for the missing sounds, allowing you to take in all the beautiful graphics and scenery.
Octodad: Dadliest Catch
None of the games on this list are likely more goofy than Octodad, but that isn’t a bad thing. It brings a certain level of hilarity to the gameplay which helps make things more fun. You play as Octodad the octopus who is simply trying to live his life. People aren’t always accepting of sea creatures living a normal life though, so you hide in plain sight pretending to be a human. It’s a rather ridiculous (in a good way) affair and one that shouldn’t be missed.
Never Alone
Initially released to consoles, Never Alone is a gorgeous adventure title that has you exploring the vast expanses of the Alaskan terrain in search for your tribe. You play as Nuna and her pal Fox in this puzzle platformer filled with tons of obstacles, beautifully crafted levels, a backstory based on the native Alaskan I±upiat people, and even enemies like polar bears and hostile natives. What makes Never Alone even more fun is that you can play Co-op with a friend, although single player gameplay does require a gamepad, and co-op play requires two, and the game only seems to be compatible with tablets. Still, Never Alone is a fantastic little game with plenty of fun on offer, so if you have gamepads and don’t mind the hefty price tag, this is worth a look.
Lifeline 2
Lifeline 2 is an adventure/interactive gamebook, so while there are no characters to control and stunning 3D graphics to behold, there is plenty of adventure to be had through the immersive story as “Akira,” a girl who is hellbent on revenger for her dead parents. As this is a gamebook style of play, the choices you make will affect the outcome of what happens next, so choose wisely.
Lost Echo
Rounding out this list is a fairly new game called Lost Echo. While the main portion of the game is centered around exploration of the 3D levels and solving puzzles to discover things that lead to an answer of the main character’s missing girlfriend, there are also mini-games to play if you need a distraction. It has a great immersive soundtrack and is playable with a point and click style interface which makes it easy to go at your own pace.
