Gionee has announced two handsets back in June, their new flagship phablet, the Elife E8, and a mid-ranger with a huge battery, the Marathon M5. The latter one has been available out in the market for quite some time now, and the company has announced quite recently that the device will be announced in India today. Well, that’s exactly what happened, Gionee held an event in India and unveiled their handset, let’s see what it has to offer, shall we.
The Gionee Marathon actually looks really good considering it’s a mid-range handset. The device sports three capacitive buttons below the display, the overview, home and back keys, respectively. The Gionee Marathon M5 features a 5.5-inch HD (1280 x 720) AMOLED display along with 3GB of RAM and 32GB of internal storage (expandable up to 128GB via microSD card). The device is fueled by MediaTek’s MT6735 64-bit quad-core processor running at 1.3GHz, and interesting enough, there’s a 6,020mAh battery on the inside. Well, there are actually two 3,010mAh battery units on the inside which you can charge really quickly thanks to fast charging. You can fully charge this phone in 90 minutes considering these battery units actually sport separate charging chips.
Anyhow, the 13-megapixel snapper (PDAF included) is available on the back of the Marathon M5, along with an LED flash. The 5-megapixel shooter (82-degree wide-angle lens) can be found up front, and this is also a dual-SIM handset which offer 4G LTE connectivity. The Gionee Marathon M5 ships with Android 5.1 Lollipop pre-installed with Gionee’s Amigo OS 3.0 installed on top of Android. The handset measures 152 x 76 x 8.5mm, while it weighs 213 grams. Now, keep in mind that this variant of the Marathon M5 sports a somewhat better specs than the variant that was announced in China. This handset ships with 3GB of RAM and 32GB of internal storage, while the Chinese variant comes with 2GB of RAM and 16GB of native storage. Either way, the Gionee Marathon M5 costs Rs. 17,999 ($271) in India, and will be available exclusively via Flipkart.
