Huawei Working to improve Camera on Future Devices

When it comes to the big features of a smartphone, it’s normally the battery life and the camera. Huawei definitely has the battery life down, especially when it comes to the Mate line of devices. But their cameras aren’t the best, especially in comparison to Samsung and LG’s latest offerings. That was something we brought up to Huawei’s executives while we were here in Beijing meeting with Huawei this week. The company admitted that their cameras do need some work, but also noted that there plenty of big improvements in the Kirin 950, for the camera.

The company also announced the Kirin 950 this week here in Beijing, and with it came a ton of features. Including a bunch of new features for the camera, and the Kirin 950 will be coming in a device later this year, from Huawei. So we’ll have to wait until then to really test it out. Bruce Lee, the company’s VP of Product Line, also noted that the team for the Kirin 950 had been together since 2013 and started working in R&D to improve the camera since 2013. Additionally, Huawei has another professional team that works on image processing in their software. Huawei also has employees working with Sony on their sensors for design, performance and everything in between.

Huawei is taking steps to make their cameras better. Will they be amazing overnight? No. But working on them is always a good thing. It’s one of the few things that we have to complain about when we review their devices. The other being their software, which they recently hired a former designer from Apple, who they hope can help with EMUI and make it so those in the west love as much as those in the east do right now. Of course, like with cameras, that’s not going to happen overnight. But it shouldn’t take as long, hopefully. There are definitely some broken things in EMUI, like the transparent notifications that make it impossible to read. Hopefully those will be fixed soon.
