As some of you might remember, Obi Mobiles has released two Android-powered devices back in August, Worldphone SF1 and Worldphone SJ1.5. Now, interesting enough, this company is co-founded by John Sculley, Apple’s former CEO. Back when these two phones were announced, Obi Mobiles said that the device will roll out to Vietnam, Indonesia, Thailand, the UAE, Kenya, Nigeria, Saudi Arabia, Pakistan, South Africa, Turkey and India. All in all, the company plans to push this device to 50 to 70 countries, which is also quite interesting.
Anyhow, the Obi Worldphone is still not available in India, but it will be soon. The company plans to unveil both Worldphone device in India before the end of November. The two devices have bene released in Vietnam and Dubai recently, and it seems like India is next in line. ”We plan to launch Obi Worldphone in India within this month and are committed to work relentlessly to enthral consumers with our innovations in design, state-of-the-art technology and high standards for manufacturing to deliver inspiring products that overturn the general assumption that great design has to come at a high price,” said Neeraj Chauhan, co-founder and CEO of Obi Mobiles.
It is also worth mentioning that the Obi Worldphone SF1 went on sale last month, and it is available in two variants, the 2GB of RAM (16GB of internal storage) variant which costs $199, and 3GB of RAM (32GB of native storage) model which is priced at $249. The Obi Worldphone SJ1.5 costs significantly less, it is priced at $129. We still don’t have the exact launch date for these devices in India, but we’ll keep you posted. As already mentioned, the Obi Worldphone SF1 comes in two variants, one variant sports 2GB of RAM and 16GB of internal storage, and the other one comes with 3GB of RAM and 32GB of native storage. The SF1 features a 5-inch 1080p (1920 x 1080) display along with a 3,000mAh battery. Android 5.0 Lollipop comes pre-installed here, while you’ll find a 13-megapixel shooter on the back of this phone. The Snapdragon 615 64-bit octa-core SoC powers the Worldphone SF1, in case you were wondering. The Worldphone SJ1.5, on the other hand, comes with a 5-inch 720p (1280 x 720) display, 1GB of RAM and 16GB of native storage. Android 5.1 Lollipop comes out of the box, and a 3,000mAh battery is also a part of the package. The 8-megapixel camera is available on the back of this phone, and MediaTek’s MT6580 SoC fuels the device.
