Latest Rumor Claims The HTC One X9 Will Be A Mid-Ranger

HTC introduced its latest smartphone, the One A9, last month, but the Taiwanese smartphone maker is said to be already prepping the launch of its next handset. The upcoming smartphone will reportedly be named the One X9, which will be keeping in line with the ‘One’ branding for HTC’s premium smartphones. While earlier rumors regarding the upcoming device seemed to suggest that it will be by far the latest and greatest from the Taiwan-based company by an order of magnitude, a post on social networking site Twitter earlier today seems to claim otherwise. According to the tweet, the X9 will only be a mid-ranger and will be positioned a step below the One A9, which already sits a notch below the One M9 in the pecking order.

Coming to the current set of information obtained from a series of tweets by @LlabTooFar, most of the rumors surrounding the One X9 are apparently false. According to the leaker, “HTC E56 (One X9) targeted Q1 2016 Device will be positioned lower than HTC One A9 It will be released ~2-3 months before flagship “M10″”. Rumors earlier this week had suggested that the upcoming smartphone from HTC will feature a QHD (1440p) display, carry a 3,500 mAh battery and will be powered by either Qualcomm’s upcoming Snapdragon 820 chipset or MediaTek’s much-anticipated Helio X20 chipset. There were also reports that claimed the primary camera on the handset will come with a 23-megapixel sensor, while the front camera will be HTC’s trademark ‘Ultrapixel’ unit with a 4-megapixel sensor.

If @LlabTooFer is to be believed, the only piece of truth in the earlier rumors is the bit about the front-camera, while the rest of it is apparently the figment of someone’s fertile imagination. The one thing to note however is that while the aforementioned tweets seem to categorically dismiss the earlier rumors, there’s no specific information from the poster about any of the hardware in the upcoming device. Of course, there’s no way to confirm any of the claims or counterclaims at this stage, so a generous helping of salt may well be the need of the hour either way one looks at it.
