Lenovo To Ditch 'Vibe' Branding, And Replace It With 'Lemon'

Lenovo is one of the largest China-based smartphone manufacturers. This company has been around for a long time, and dabbles in pretty much everything tech-related. That being said, Lenovo has released quite a few of smartphones this year, and the Vibe X3 is the latest handset they’ve announced. Lenovo has been using the ‘Vibe’ branding for their handsets for a long time, but it seems like that might come to an end. According to a report from China, the company might replace ‘Vibe’ branding, which means that the Vibe X3 might be the last such smartphone released by Lenovo.

According to a report from China based on a quote from Lenovo Mobile Business Group’s President, Chen Xudong, Lenovo will ‘phase out’ the ‘Vibe’ branding. The company intends to focus on their ‘Lemon’ and ‘Motorola’ brands moving forward, which means that the ‘Vibe’ branding will be a part of history. The company’s Lemon K series will be a line of affordable devices prices between 600 ($94) and 1,000 Yuan ($157), while the Lemon X brand will represent devices priced above 2,000 Yuan ($312). Motorola, on the other hand, will probably remain a separate company. That part of Lenovo will more or less do business as usual and release devices prices between 1,500 and 5,000 Yuan ($235-784) which will basically cover all segments of the market.

Now, the report doesn’t exactly say anything about Motorola changing its name to ‘Lenovo Motorola’ or something similar to that, so we assumed that the company will keep releasing handsets under the ‘Motorola’ branding, as they did thus far. This report, however, suggests that Motorola might have a bigger role to play when it comes to the design of Lenovo-branded handsets, as some previous rumors have indicated. The Lenovo Vibe X3 which has been released recently actually looks significantly different than pretty much everything Lenovo has released thus far, which could symbolize Motorola’s involvement. Either way, things are becoming really interesting over at Lenovo, and it seems like the company is looking to step up their smartphone game and create even more competition in the market. We’ll let you know when new info surfaces, stay tuned.
