The smartwatch market is one which is growing at quite the steady pace. Although, general adoption is thought to still be in the infancy, the level of backing the smartwatch industry has seen from manufacturers is extremely high. From very affordable options right up to the likes of the recently unveiled TAG Heuer Connected watch, everyone seems to want to be involved.
In fact, not only are there a number of manufacturers backing the industry, but some are backing the industry with multiple options. Samsung is one of those who are actively backing smartwatches (and wearables in general), as is LG. In LG’s case, they only recently announced the availability of their latest smartwatch, the LG Watch Urbane 2nd Edition. As the name suggests, this is a second version, with the big difference being this one has the ability to be used in a standalone manner, thanks to its cellular connectivity. As such this is one which can be sold directly by carriers as a standing product. Much like AT&T and Verizon have both confirmed they are now doing.
Well, early reports are now coming in that there might be an issue with the 2nd Edition LG Watch Urbane. To be clear, nothing has been confirmed yet from AT&T, Verizon or from LG. That said, a report from 9to5 Google today is stating that sources have revealed AT&T are essentially recalling the smartwatch. According to the information, AT&T have informed their stores (and are informing customers) that anyone who has purchased the Watch Urbane 2nd Edition are being offered a refund or exchange for an alternative smartwatch. 9to5 Google also point out that a reddit which has gone live today from someone who pre-ordered the watch through Verizon, has been informed that their order is “on hold” with no reason giving as to why. According to the redditor, this is the case for all Verizon models, with stores not stocking them either. Interestingly, the reason being suggested by the AT&T source is that the watch has a “quality issue”, one which affects day to day functionality. Therefore, it is likely that it is a serious enough flaw.
